Program
La Jetée — Chris Marker
France, 1962, 28 min, French (original version)
After a war has devastated the surface of the Earth, survivors living beneath Paris experiment with time travel. A man is chosen because of his obsessive memory of an image from his childhood on the jetty at Orly: the face of a woman and a suspended moment that might hold the future.
Sans Soleil — Chris Marker
France, 1983, 100 min, French (original version)
A woman reads letters from a fictional cameraman, Sandor Krasna, an imagined alter ego of Chris Marker. A traveler and filmmaker, he writes to her from Japan, Africa, and elsewhere. Through his images and memories, he reflects on memory, time, and the way images record (or transform) the world.
